Augustine Sedgewick is the author of Fatherhood: A History of Love and Power (Scribner, May 2025) and Coffeeland: One Man’s Dark Empire and the Making of Our Favorite Drug (Penguin Press, 2020), winner of the 2022 Cherasco Prize as the best history book published in Italy in the previous two years.. He earned his doctorate at Harvard University, and his research on the global history of capitalism, work, food, family, and masculinity has received fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the American Antiquarian Society, the Jackman Humanities Institute of the University of Toronto, and the Project on Justice, Welfare, and Economics at Harvard. Originally from Maine, he lives in New York City.
